Command restriction bypass via pipe metacharacter
Published Feb 20, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Shell-restriction bypass on Arista DCS switches allows remote authenticated users to run prohibited commands through TACACS+ authorization. On DCS-7050QX-32S-R 4.20.9M, DCS-7050CX3-32S-R 4.20.11M, and DCS-7280SRAM-48C6-R 4.22.0.1F, an overly permissive TACACS+ permitted-command regular expression accepts a pipe character that chains a restricted command. A valid shell account and the permissive server policy are required; Arista disputes a product flaw and attributes the behavior to TACACS+ configuration.
