CVE-2020-8910Network attack vector

Authentication bypass via permissive authority regex

Published Mar 26, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

URL parsing in goog.uri in Google Closure Library 20200224 and earlier allows remote attackers to obtain a wrong authority from crafted URLs. The splitRe_ regular expression allowed backslashes inside authority fields, so a URL such as https://[email protected] was assigned the wrong domain. Exploitation requires a user to process the crafted URL, and confidentiality is exposed when consuming code trusts the parsed authority for access control.
