CVE-2020-8868Network attack vector

SYSTEM code execution via hard-coded service-account password

Published Mar 23, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Hard-coded credentials in Quest Software Foglight Evolve 9.0.0 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges. The CommandLineService accepts a fixed password for the service account instead of requiring a unique secret, exposing its command-execution path. No prior authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation grants complete control of the affected Windows service context.
