CVE-2020-8864

Unauthenticated code execution via empty-password comparison

Published Mar 23, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Authentication bypass in D-Link DIR-867, DIR-878, and DIR-882 firmware allows network-adjacent attackers to execute arbitrary code. The HNAP login handler uses strncmp incorrectly when comparing empty passwords, allowing an empty credential to pass authentication. LAN access is sufficient to reset the administrator password and run code in the router's context without prior authentication.
