Payment hijacking via unauthenticated configuration overwrite
Published Feb 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Origin validation error in CardGate Payments for WooCommerce 3.1.15 and earlier allows remote attackers to overwrite payment settings. The cardgate_callback function accepts unauthenticated cgp_sitesetup and token request parameters, pulls the referenced merchant configuration, and writes its IDs and keys into WordPress options without verifying the request origin. Remote attackers need a valid token for an attacker-controlled CardGate merchant account; replacing the store configuration enables unpaid order-status spoofing or diversion of subsequent payments.
