CVE-2020-8568Network attack vector

Host file write via unchecked targetPath

Published Jan 21, 2021 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Path traversal in SecretProviderClassPodStatus handling in Kubernetes Secrets Store CSI Driver v0.0.15 and v0.0.16 allows remote authenticated users to write host files. The controller trusted attacker-modified targetPath values when locating mounted files, enabling writes under kubelet pod directories and synchronization of file contents into Kubernetes Secrets. Exploitation requires permission to update the status resource and secret auto-rotation enabled; impact includes host-file modification and disclosure of other pod secrets.
