Cross-site scripting via unrestricted redirect URI schemes
Published Jan 6, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Rails Action Pack 6.0.0 through 6.0.3.3 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript via a crafted URL. The ActionableExceptions.redirect_to method placed an attacker-controlled location in an HTML link without restricting the URI scheme, so a javascript URI ran when followed. Exploitation requires a development-mode application with Actionable Exceptions enabled and user interaction with the malicious link.
