CVE-2020-8142Public exploit

Account takeover via array-valued password check

Published Apr 3, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Incorrect authorization in Revive Adserver 5.0.4 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to change a logged-in user’s credentials. The checkPassword function passes an array-valued pwold input to md5, producing a null password field that permits the user lookup to succeed without a password. Exploitation requires physical access to an administrator interface with an active user session and permits that user’s email address or password to be replaced.
