CVE-2020-8124Network attack vector

Security-check bypass via leading-whitespace URL parsing

Published Feb 4, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Improper input validation in Unshift.io url-parse 1.4.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to bypass security checks via crafted URLs. The extractProtocol and Url parser paths failed to remove leading whitespace before interpreting protocol and hostname data, so specially prefixed URLs could produce false security decisions. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled URLs into the library; the bounded impact is integrity loss in those checks, including possible redirect or request-policy bypasses.
