CVE-2020-8027

Arbitrary file overwrite via fixed temporary paths

Published Feb 11, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Insecure temporary files in SUSE openldap2 packages allow local users to overwrite arbitrary files through fixed /tmp paths. The openldap_update_modules_path.sh package-upgrade script uses predictable names for a temporary LDIF and configuration backup and starts daemons unconditionally, permitting path substitution during elevated execution. Exploitation requires local access during a vulnerable package upgrade; successful interference can expose the OpenLDAP configuration, replace arbitrary files, or interrupt the service.
