Cross-site scripting via unsafe File API rendering
Published Feb 5, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cross-site scripting in the File API in GitLab 12.7.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script in a victim's browser. The File API returns attacker-controlled file content in a browser-executable context without sufficient output neutralization. Exploitation requires a victim to open the crafted API response; script executes in GitLab's origin with access bounded by the victim's session.
