Database-name enumeration via distinguishable login errors
Published Feb 17, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Observable discrepancy in LabVantage LIMS 8.3 allows remote attackers to enumerate database names through unauthenticated login requests. The /labservices/rc?command=login endpoint returns an "Unrecognized" marker when a supplied database name does not exist, creating a response oracle that distinguishes invalid names. No credentials or user interaction are required; the confirmed consequence is disclosure of database names, not database contents.
