Authenticated code execution via unsafe FreeMarker object exposure
Published Jan 23, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Server-side template injection in JFrog Artifactory 5.x and 6.x allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a filtered resource. Artifactory processes an attacker-deployed filtered resource with FreeMarker's DefaultObjectWrapper, exposing Java object methods that read and write server files. Exploitation requires repository deploy and annotate permissions; file writes can install an SSH authorized key and yield code execution as the service account.
