CVE-2020-7924Network attack vector

TLS traffic interception via hostname-validation bypass

Published Apr 12, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Improper certificate validation in MongoDB Database Tools and mongomirror allows man-in-the-middle attackers to intercept or alter TLS traffic. When --sslAllowInvalidHostnames is supplied, the tools disable all server-certificate validation instead of skipping only hostname matching. An operator must invoke an affected client with the flag, after which an attacker on the network path can present an invalid certificate and read or modify protected database traffic.
