CVE-2020-7610Network attack vector

Unintended document serialization via invalid type tags

Published Mar 30, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Improper BSON type handling in MongoDB BSON before 1.1.4 allows attackers to serialize crafted objects as unintended documents. The serializeInto routine in lib/bson/parser/serializer.js fails to reject an unrecognized _bsontype value, allowing the object to be handled as a document instead of its intended BSON type. Reachability requires an embedding application to pass an attacker-controlled JavaScript object to the serializer, and the resulting BSON can misrepresent stored or transmitted data.
