Unauthenticated SYSTEM command execution via authorization-byte swap
Published Jul 22, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Authentication bypass in Sage X3 AdxAdmin before 93.2.53 allows remote attackers to execute operating-system commands as SYSTEM. AdxDSrv.exe accepts 0x06 in place of the normal 0x6a authorization byte, skips credential impersonation, writes a supplied .cmd file, and launches it with CreateProcessAsUserA under the service account. Exploitation requires network access to the AdxAdmin service and knowledge or discovery of its installation path; successful commands obtain full SYSTEM control.
