Stored XSS via unsanitized notes field
Published Jun 25, 2020 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Rapid7 Metasploit Pro 4.17.1-20200427 and earlier lets remote attackers run script in the console via a crafted network service. The scan importer stores attacker-controlled service data in a discovered asset's notes field without adequate output encoding, so the payload executes when an operator views that host record. Exploitation requires a reachable scan target and operator interaction with the affected record; script execution can read or alter data available to the Pro console session.
