GTI response spoofing via cleartext DNS lookups
Published Apr 15, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cleartext DNS in McAfee Endpoint Security for Windows before 10.7.0 February 2021 Update allows remote attackers to read or alter GTI traffic. The GTI reputation channel sends ENS requests and server responses as unencrypted DNS traffic, exposing both content and reply integrity to an intermediary. Exploitation requires control of an intermediate DNS server or the endpoint's network DNS configuration; it discloses queries and permits forged GTI replies.
