Database backup disclosure via guessable public filenames
Published Jan 20, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Information disclosure in WP Database Backup 5.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to read ZIP database backups via guessed URLs. The plugin stores archives in wp-content/uploads/db-backup/ under names combining the site title, date, UNIX timestamp, and a seven-character random identifier without preventing direct web access. No authentication is required, but exploitation depends on discovering the complete filename and on local backup storage being web-accessible; disclosure is limited to generated database archives.
