System compromise via cleartext update metadata

Cleartext update retrieval in Parallels Desktop 13 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to redirect users to malicious software. The updater obtains parallels_updates.xml over unauthenticated HTTP and trusts its update file URL when presenting the update prompt. A network-positioned attacker must alter the response and persuade a user to accept the presented update, enabling execution of attacker-selected software.
