Authenticated code execution via retained nested PHP file
Published Apr 22, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Arbitrary file upload in Elementor 2.7.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute code through a crafted ZIP archive. Source_Local::import_template extracts nested files, then treats their containing directory as a file; failed unlink and cleanup calls leave an executable PHP file under uploads. Contributor-level access and discovery of the time-derived temporary directory are required before the uploaded shell can run commands as the web server.
