Application crash via WASSP off-by-one read
Published Jan 16, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
An out-of-bounds read in the Wireshark WASSP dissector 3.2.0 allows remote attackers to crash the application with malformed input. The wassp_match_strval function uses off-by-one boundary comparisons when indexing a global string-value table, so a crafted WASSP sub-TLV reads beyond the table. Triggering requires either injecting a malformed WASSP packet onto a monitored network or convincing a user to open a crafted packet trace, and the bounded consequence is an application crash.
