SMTP credential disclosure via cleartext project-file storage

Cleartext credential storage in Rockwell Automation MicroLogix controllers and RSLogix 500 allows local users to read saved SMTP credentials. RSLogix 500 writes saved SMTP account data, including server authentication values, into project files in cleartext rather than protecting the secrets. The issue affects MicroLogix 1400 Series B 21.001 and earlier, Series A in all versions, MicroLogix 1100 in all versions, and RSLogix 500 12.001 and earlier; access to a project file or controller is required.
