CVE-2020-6949Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Editor-to-administrator account takeover via trusted user identifier

Published Jan 13, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Privilege escalation in HashBrown CMS 1.3.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to take over administrator accounts. The postUser handler trusts an editor-controlled user identifier and passes submitted account properties to updateUserById, allowing another user's record to be targeted. Editor access is required; overwriting an administrator's password hash, salt, or token enables account takeover and broader account reconfiguration.
