Unauthenticated profile tampering via unchecked user ID
Published Jan 13, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
IDOR in Ultimate Member 2.1.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to alter other users’ profiles and cover photos through crafted requests. ajax_resize_image and ajax_image_upload trust the request-supplied user_id when selecting the target account without checking whether the requester may edit that user. Unauthenticated network access to the WordPress AJAX handlers is sufficient, and exploitation changes another member’s stored profile imagery or profile data.
