CVE-2020-6836Network attack vector

Remote code execution via unsanitized formula values

Published Jan 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Code injection in hot-formula-parser before 3.0.1 for Node.js allows remote attackers to execute commands via crafted formula input. The grammar-parser.jison parser concatenates formula values into an eval call without sanitization, so attacker-controlled values become executable JavaScript. Exploitation requires a service that parses attacker-influenced formulas; successful execution can run arbitrary commands on the server with the Node.js process privileges.
