CVE-2020-6828Public exploit

Code execution via unsanitized ContentProvider filenames

Published Apr 24, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Path traversal in Firefox ESR before 68.7 allows attackers to overwrite Android profile files through a crafted Intent. ContentUriUtils.getTempFilePathFromContentUri trusts a ContentProvider-supplied filename, so ../ segments escape the cache directory during file copying. Exploitation requires a malicious Android application able to send the Intent; replacing profiles.ini or installing user.js preferences grants Firefox-equivalent code execution and network-setting control.
