Password reuse via uncleared private-session cache
Published Apr 24, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Password-generation flaw in Mozilla Firefox before 75 allows local users to recover reused private-session passwords from memory. LoginManagerParent caches generated passwords by origin but does not clear its map when the last private-browsing context exits, so a later private session receives the same value. The browser must remain open, the same site must be revisited, and password generation must be used; the retained password and origin are then exposed to local memory access or privileged browser code.
