Browser compromise via V8 type confusion
Published May 21, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Type confusion in V8 in Google Chrome before 83.0.4103.61 allows remote attackers to corrupt heap memory via a crafted HTML page. V8 processes attacker-controlled page content with an incompatible type, but Google's restricted issue record does not disclose the affected function or erroneous operation. A victim must open the page; successful corruption can compromise the browser process, while public sources do not establish a sandbox escape.
