Sandboxed code execution via dangling WebAudio handler
Published Mar 20, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Use-after-free in Google Chrome before 80.0.3987.149 allows remote attackers to run code in the renderer via a crafted HTML page. DeferredTaskHandler::ClearHandlersToBeDeleted clears active_source_handlers_ without clearing finished_source_handlers_, leaving BreakConnections to dereference a freed AudioScheduleSourceHandler. A user must load the malicious page, and the resulting code execution remains confined to Chrome's renderer sandbox unless combined with a separate escape.
