CVE-2020-6077Network attack vector

Process crash via recursive label pointer

Published Mar 24, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in Videolabs libmicrodns 0.1.0 allows remote attackers to crash an mDNS-using process via a crafted message. The rr_decode function applies an incorrect remaining-length check to a DNS compression pointer, then recursively dereferences a pointer outside the packet buffer. The process must be listening for mDNS traffic through the library; successful exploitation interrupts that process without reported data access or modification.
