CVE-2020-6072Network attack vector

Remote code execution via unchecked label decode

Published Mar 24, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

libmicrodns 0.1.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through malformed compressed mDNS labels. The rr_decode parser return value is ignored, so a crafted compressed label reaches a double-free path during resource-record decoding. No authentication or user interaction is required because an attacker only needs to send an mDNS message to a process using the library; successful exploitation can compromise code execution and availability.
