CVE-2020-5835

Privilege escalation via remote-deployment race condition

Published May 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

A race condition in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager before 14.3 allows local users to gain elevated privileges during client deployment. The flaw occurs in the client remote-deployment workflow, but Broadcom has not disclosed the competing operations or affected permission boundary. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access, high-complexity timing, and user interaction on the remote machine, and successful abuse grants elevated control there.
