SYSTEM code execution via unauthenticated COM method
Published Feb 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Privilege escalation in Symantec SEP and SEP Small Business Edition before 14.2 RU2 MP1 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The ccJobMgr.dll module exposes a COM-class method that launches an attacker-chosen executable without authenticating the caller. Low-privileged code execution on the Windows endpoint is required, after which the executable runs in the SYSTEM context.
