CVE-2020-5755Public exploit

SYSTEM privilege escalation via renameable DLL directory

Published Jun 15, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Local privilege escalation in Webroot SecureAnywhere before 9.0.28.48 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM through DLL hijacking. The endpoint agent leaves %PROGRAMDATA%\WrData\PKG renameable, allowing a replacement directory containing a malicious WrUrl.dll or wrPhreshPhish.dll to be loaded when the protected service restarts. Exploitation requires local code execution and either a service crash or a restart, after which the malicious DLL runs with SYSTEM privileges.
