SYSTEM command execution via traversable RPC path
Published May 21, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Path traversal in Druva inSync Windows Client 6.6.3 allows local users to execute operating system commands with SYSTEM privileges. The inSyncCPHwnet64.exe service accepts RPC type 5 data on TCP port 6064, checks only that a program path starts in its data directory, and passes traversal-containing paths to CreateProcessW. Local access is sufficient to bypass the prefix check with parent-directory segments and launch an attacker-chosen executable as SYSTEM without user interaction.
