Arbitrary file read via unvalidated backup path
Published May 7, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Path traversal in TCExam 14.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary server files through the backup editor. The admin/code/tce_edit_backup.php handler appends the unvalidated backup_file POST value to K_PATH_BACKUP, so ../ sequences escape the backup directory. By default, exploitation requires a level 10 administrator permitted to download backups and exposes any file readable by the web server.
