Remote code execution via PHP data URI
Published Jan 14, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Code injection in Freelancy 1.0.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code through a crafted /api/files/ request. The endpoint accepts a file value beginning with data:application/x-php;base64 alongside an application/x-php type, then processes the decoded payload as executable PHP instead of rejecting active content. Network access is sufficient and no authentication or user interaction is required, allowing commands to run with the web application's privileges.
