Protected BIOS settings reset via missing authorization
Published Jun 10, 2020 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Improper authorization in Dell client-platform BIOS allows local administrators to reset protected settings. The Dell Manageability interface accepts an RTC or CMOS reset without enforcing BIOS Administrator authentication, restoring BIOS Setup configuration to defaults. Local system access with OS administrator privileges is required; exploitation changes protected firmware settings but does not disclose data or interrupt service.
