DNS response interruption via SmartConnect processing loop
Published Apr 3, 2020 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Denial of service in SmartConnect DNS in Dell Technologies PowerScale OneFS 8.2.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to interrupt DNS responses. A triggerable error condition leaves SmartConnect processing in a loop that consumes CPU and prevents the service from answering other DNS requests. No authentication or user interaction is required; the documented consequence is degraded SmartConnect DNS availability rather than a cluster crash.
