Unauthenticated root code execution via plugin path traversal
Published Jun 15, 2020 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Path traversal in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.0 through 10.1.5 allows remote attackers to execute code through the Administrative Console. The plugin installer accepts unauthenticated requests to fetch an attacker-hosted RPM, writes it outside the intended path, and installs it. Malicious RPM scriptlets then execute with root privileges on the Linux appliance.
