Authenticated privilege escalation via token-based SOAP requests
Published Apr 10, 2020 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Privilege escalation in WebSphere Application Server traditional 7.0, 8.0, 8.5, and 9.0 allows remote authenticated users to elevate privileges. The SOAP administrative connector mishandles token-based authentication for an administrative request, but IBM has not disclosed the faulty validation or authorization operation. Exploitation requires an authenticated account and a high-complexity request path; successful requests grant elevated privileges over server data and operations.
