CVE-2020-3826

Code execution via invalid DDS image size parameters

Published Feb 27, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in Apple ImageIO allows attackers to execute arbitrary code by supplying a DDS image with invalid size parameters. The DDS decoder inadequately validates image size parameters before reading from a heap buffer, causing an out-of-bounds read during decoding. Exploitation requires a vulnerable application to process the crafted image; some messenger preview paths do so without user interaction.
