Stored XSS via XHTML-namespaced XML upload

Published Feb 3, 2026 · Updated Feb 3, 2026

Stored XSS in DNN Platform 9.5 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in visitors' browsers via XML uploads. The journal profile tools accept XML uploads whose XHTML namespace causes embedded script elements to execute when the stored file is viewed. A normal user account is sufficient; HttpOnly cookies limit direct cookie theft, but the script can act in a victim's DNN session and bypass CSRF defenses.
