LocalSystem code execution via unquoted service path
Published Jan 30, 2026 · Updated Jan 30, 2026
Unquoted service path handling in Andrea ST Filters Service 1.0.64.7 allows local users to execute code with LocalSystem privileges. The AESTFilters Windows service registers C:\Program Files\IDT\WDM\AESTSr64.exe without quotation marks, causing Windows to search ambiguous executable prefixes during startup. A low-privileged local user must place a malicious executable in a searched prefix location and wait for service startup or a system reboot.
