SYSTEM code execution via unquoted service path
Published Jan 29, 2026 · Updated Jan 29, 2026
Unquoted service path handling in SonarQube 8.3.1 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM when the Windows service restarts. The SonarQube service registers its wrapper.exe command line without quoting paths that contain spaces, leaving Windows service path resolution ambiguous. Exploitation requires write access to a searched path and a service running as LocalSystem; the resulting executable starts with SYSTEM privileges.
