Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Jan 29, 2026 · Updated Jan 29, 2026
Unquoted service path in Wibu-Systems CodeMeter 6.60 allows local users to execute code as LocalSystem during service startup. The CodeMeter Runtime Server registers C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin\CodeMeter.exe without quotes, so Windows can resolve an attacker-planted executable earlier in the spaced path. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access, write access to a searched path location, and a service restart or system reboot; successful code runs with LocalSystem privileges.
