Authenticated privilege escalation via unchecked admin parameter
Published Jan 28, 2026 · Updated Jan 28, 2026
Incorrect authorization in Tildeslash M/Monit 3.7.4 allows remote authenticated users to grant a standard account administrator access. The /api/1/admin/users/update handler accepts an admin=1 field from a standard user's authenticated POST request without enforcing administrator authorization. Any valid standard-user credentials are sufficient to rewrite that account's permissions and gain access to administrative functions.
