Unauthenticated plugin state changes via unchecked AJAX handlers
Published Jun 7, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Access flaws in Brilliance 1.2.7 and earlier, Activello 1.4.0 and earlier, and Newspaper X 1.3.1 and earlier let remote attackers toggle plugins. The activello_activate_plugin and activello_deactivate_plugin AJAX handlers in inc/welcome-screen/class-activello-welcome.php omit capability checks and nonce validation. No authentication or user interaction is required, and exploitation can activate or deactivate any installed plugin, changing site behavior or interrupting plugin-provided functions.
