LDAP backend impersonation via disabled certificate validation
Published Jan 27, 2023 · Updated Mar 28, 2025
Improper certificate validation in Apache::Session::LDAP before 0.5 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to impersonate LDAP backends. The LDAP store supplies no verification policy or CA source to Net::LDAP, inheriting Net::LDAPS defaults that do not validate the server certificate. Exploitation requires control of the client-to-LDAP network path and permits a spoofed backend to read or alter session data or interrupt LDAP-backed sessions.
